How to use Final Reality

How to use - System requirements

What should I know when testing with Final Reality?

How to compare different 3D cards?
When comparing one 3D accelerator to another, you should only run the 3D tests. The overall score is based on all the different areas Final Reality tests, and on external accelerators the 2D parts are based completely on the display adapter in the machine. Basing a comparison between an onboard accelerator and an external accelerator on the overall score will not give you an accurate result.

If at all possible, always use the same computer to test with and simply change the 3D accelerator. Even computers that should be the same (same CPU, same display adapter) may give different results with different motherboards.

How to compare Display Adapters?
Final reality was designed to be a 3D benchmark, but you can use it for elementary 2D benchmarking as well. The 2D bus speed tests are the standard way to test a video adapter.

Just like with 3D accelerators, for accurate results always test using the same computer.

Note: Final Reality tests DirectDraw performance for Display Adapters, which is not an indicator of Windows desktop performance.

How to evaluate CPU speed effect on results?
Almost every test in Final Reality is affected by the speed of the CPU. If you want to know by how much, do the reverse of what you did for 3D and 2D testing - use the same 3D accelerator and display adapter and change the machine (or just the CPU, if you are able to). The 2D image processing tests rely almost completely on the CPU speed and are ideal for this. Again, you should be only looking at the results of these two tests - all the others rely on the various other components of the machine.

The result you get can be used to compare different CPU's as well.

How to measure the overall performance of the system?
Run the whole benchmark and use the overall score.
