The digital edition of Control Ultimate Edition lands on next generation consoles today! The physical edition will be available starting March 2nd. The Ultimate Edition contains the base game and both the expansions, The Foundation and AWE. Starting today, you can play Control with next-generation features.
Control Ultimate Edition offers two different modes to choose from on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X: Performance mode, and Graphics mode. The Performance mode will target a constant 60 FPS performance, while the Graphics mode targets 30 FPS performance with ray tracing. On the Xbox Series S, only the Performance mode will be available, targeting 60 FPS with no ray tracing.
One of the biggest things we are excited about when it comes to next generation consoles is being able to bring ray tracing to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players. Control has been lauded for its stunning visuals – thank you! – and with the power of next-gen and ray tracing, you’ll see an overall improvement to image quality and realistic reflections across the board. It’s especially visible on transparent materials, such as all those glass-fronted offices in the Research Sector. We hope console players enjoy the reflections before you inevitably smash through the glass with Launch, and that ray tracing gives you new inspiration for Photo Mode shots!
We are also glad to say that on next generation consoles, Control’s overall frame rate will be much smoother, and the load times will be significantly faster. This should be one of the most noticeable improvements in Control Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S!
When it comes to the PlayStation 5, we were able to take full advantage of the DualSense. The vibrations of the controller will allow you to “feel” when the Pierce Service Weapon form is fully charged, and if you’re using Grip, you’ll be able to tell when it goes into cooldown by the right trigger becoming “loose”. This way you can feel the difference between Service Weapon forms even better than before.
Control Ultimate Edition is also included in the monthly lineup of PlayStation Plus games in February on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported us and Control so far – for the feedback, the enthusiasm, the fanart, the cosplay, the videos, and more that you keep creating every day. Thank you for the truly unexpected number of awards and acknowledgement from our peers, too. There’s no exaggeration when we say it was unexpected, either – we had to get a second glass cabinet for our studio lobby just to fit them all.
Despite the challenges 2020 threw at us, we have entered 2021 still happy to be making games (even if it is from our homes), and we want to make them for you for a long time to come. We hope you will continue to support our efforts!
