We celebrate 30 years of making games with new merch, a new book, and new art

This month, Remedy Entertainment will be blowing out 30 candles on our birthday cake. That's right – we are celebrating thirty years of independently making video games.

Remedy was founded in August 1995 in Espoo, Finland, and has its roots in the Finnish demoscene, and in one of our founders' basements.

"We started making video games in a basement in Espoo, Finland, likely because we wanted to escape the long and dark Finnish winters," said Remedy Entertainment's co-founder and the Chairman of the Board Markus Mäki, looking back on the past thirty years. "We found the secret ingredient: an ocean's worth of coffee, a lot of curiosity, and even a larger dose of passion. Those have kept us going and brought us to this moment, 30 years later. The offices have improved, and the coffee machines even more so. We remain curious and passionate about creating memorable experiences, and we're eager to see where that takes us. Above all, we are incredibly grateful to all of our fans taking this trip with us (and for coffee)."

While 30th anniversary celebrations will continue for the rest of August and beyond, today we kick them off with several really special and exciting announcements that we have been looking forward to sharing with you for a while – so let's get right into it.

We commissioned Valentina Paz, and awesome artist and valued member of the Remedy community, to create a piece best showing all of Remedy's original characters. Valentina was given complete creative freedom, and decided to make a piece depicting a scene after an Old Gods of Asgard concert. Can you identify everyone in the picture?

Together with iam8bit we are proud to present a unique line of merch to celebrate our 30th anniversary. The Remedy 30th anniversary collection includes bespoke merch from Control, Alan Wake, and Max Payne. There's the Ashtray Maze ashtray and PJ set, the Cold Casey lunchbox, VHS tapes of Night Springs and Threshold Kids, the official Max Payne Low Resolution shirt, and much more – and last but not least, the Oh Deer Diner thermos is making a comeback.

  • The Oh Deer Diner thermos goes on sale via iam8bit on 20th August at 9am PT here.
  • Pre-orders for the rest of the iam8bit Remedy 30th anniversary collection will go live on 21st August at 9am PT here.

We have teamed up with Lost in Cult to bring you Alan Wake: Design Works, a deep dive into everything you were ever curious about when it comes to the Alan Wake franchise.

Alan Wake: Design Works by Lost in Cult launches on 18th August, 10am PT at www.lostincult.co.uk – go to the link to explore and pre-order all the different editions!

Next week, we are kicking off Remedy Games – a series of steams on Twitch and YouTube where we'll play some of our games from start to finish and chat with the people who helped make them.

We start Remedy Games on 27th August, the sixth anniversary of Control, with Control!

And one more thing for this week! We want to hear from our community on our 30th anniversary. We're asking you to tell us what Remedy's games mean to you in the form of a short video, which we'll put together into an anniversary tribute. We have some very exclusive, limited Remedy (and Poets of the Fall, and Poe) swag that a select few entries can win. We'll be welcoming submissions to our anniversary video on 20th August on our Discord server and social media channels. Look for more info there, and under the #RMD30 hashtag on socials!

You can find more info on everything we're doing for Remedy's 30th anniversary in the press release.

If you have been with us since the beginning, or just joined the Remedy community recently – thank you. We could not be making these games without your passion and support.

From Espoo with love,

Remedy Entertainment
